Optics is the physical science that studies the origin and propagation of light, how it changes, what effects it produces, and other phenomena associated with it. There are two branches of optics. Geometrical optics is concerned with the nature and properties of light itself. Geometrical optics deals with the principles governing image-forming properties of lenses, mirrors, and other devices, such as optical data processors.
Had I not been a major in optics, I would have liked optics better. After all, optical phenomena are so widespread and many of them raise people’s curiosity easily. Viewing the Milky Way at about 10 million light years from my yard on earth reminds me of the beautiful sagas about it. Cameras are such magic implement that they can project us human beings and the nature on small films. Many things like these make me pleased to know something in this field.
But, after I have entered university and learned the optical knowledge systematically, my zest on it decayed because I felt frustrated. As a result of my disinterest in physics in my high school, I often felt that it was an impossible task for me to study me lessons perfectly well. There were so many and so complex formula and concepts to understand. Sometimes I even envied the top 2 or 3 students in my class who so great and really grasped the kernel of what we had learned which, on the contra, often confused me. Newton once said he was just a kid playing on the beach and accidentally picked up a few of the pebbles. Perhaps the suitable amount of pebbles made him that outstanding and obviously, while my pebbles were too many for me and I am a little out of beach. The tiredness drove the pleasure away.
Fortunately, I have read an article before which said even many successful people don’t care for their career very much, in which case attitude become very important. He perseverses in it and finally makes it. So following its instruction, I insisted on after all, studying seriously though not very hard.
The god’s favorite’s hobby and career are uniform. How lucky are they! Now that I don’t belong to this group, I have to admit the fact and try my best to make the situation better. Then the result, at least my performances in the tests, were fairly not bad. Though not quite topping, I was qualified to go no studying for a master degree without an entrance test.
Being a graduate now, I have not formed a systematical cognition of optics yet. The details of it cannot be connected organically. I have not built the gravel, sand and brick into a building according to my own design. This always makes me a little ashamed and then wander in which field should I explore my career.
Possibly, I will not stay in university and then become an expert on optics, which I think is a little beyond me. It’s my thoughts now, but who knows! Things don’t usually happen according to people’s expectations. I think I am now groping for my target career and not sure about my future.
I have set my mind to take the study process as a good opportunity to develop my ability to analyze and solve problems. I am lucky to have many excellent teachers, who have set wonderful examples for me, both in specialty and morality. And I often think that I don’t regret my choosing to learn optics even just for the people I have met due to this choice.

Welcome, xfmeng.
Your diary lets me feel that you are lucky enough to choose a research field you like so much and have so many good teachers, at the same time I can sense you are a very hardworking student. Here I congratulate to you on being excellent in your major in the near future in advance.
Appreciate this precious studying period please
