Book Description: )
Dr. Hugh L. Moffet's popular handbook has now been thoroughly updated by two well-known specialists in pediatric infectious diseases. Organized by anatomic site of disease rather than by infectious agent, the book takes a problem-oriented approach to the diagnosis and treatment of infectious syndromes. It guides clinicians step by step through the process of classifying the illness, developing a differential diagnosis, establishing the definitive diagnosis, treating the patient, and anticipating and recognizing complications and life-threatening emergencies. This Fourth Edition has a greater focus on treatment and includes new chapters on HIV infection and AIDS and congenital immunodeficiency syndromes.

Review:
This Text Belongs on Every Practicing Pediatrician's Shelf
The authors successfully span the whole of the subspecialty, in ample depth to satisfy the needs of a busy office practitioner, subspecialist, or resident. The introductory chapter on diagnosis and management of infectious diseases frames a logical approach to diferential diagnosis, laced with healthy skepticism and good clinical sense. The chapters which follow have been thoroughly updated and revised. Exemplary of the the book's utility is the tuberculosis section, which presents an often difficult management dilemma in a refreshing and practical manner. The informal yet collegial tone also distinguishes this book from the heavier, more encyclopedic infectious diseases texts. Our residents have found Moffet's useful in the daily management of patients; here is an infectious diseases textbook that belongs on the shelf of every Pediatrician. |
